Scoring rubric (this shows you what I'm grading you on!)
________________________________________________________________________
Hi guys,
This is where you can find everything you need to prepare for the oral exam Thursday 10/6.
Here is a brief description of the assignment:
For our first exam, students will create a tall tale of their own and present the story to the class on Flip. Students will be graded on their creativity, pronunciation and grammar, expressiveness, and application of the characteristics of tall tales in their stories. Students do not need to memorize their tall tales, but they must read with expressiveness. Please don’t read like a robot! A rubric will be provided for reference.
Here is the link to the Flip group where you will record your video.
Remember, if you can't access Flip, you can always send me your video by email to:
dan_m@hmps.tp.edu.tw
I will be checking my email all weekend in case anyone has trouble accessing the assignment or simply has questions about it. Here is a scoring rubric to show you what I'm looking for. I recommend checking each part to make sure you are doing the assignment correctly.
1. Complete this pre-writing worksheet to map out your tall tale. All sections must be completed and included in your story to receive full credit. (10 points)
2. Using the worksheet as a guide, write your story. It should be at least one A4 (or Bubble Book) page in length, but can be longer. I won't take away points for only writing one page, but I will give extra points to students who give extra effort :) Make sure your story includes the following characteristics of tall tales:
a) exaggeration/hyperbole (at least three examples)
b) a main character with superhuman abilities
c) a main problem/conflict that is solved in a funny, fantastical, or improbable way
d) sensory language (be creative with your descriptions)
3. Practice how you want to present your tall tale. Make sure you can read it smoothly and expressively. Remember, you're telling a story. Don't be a robot!
4. Record your video on Flip. I have set the time limit at 10 minutes just in case, but your story will probably be between 2-5 minutes long. (30 points for story plus presentation)
5. We will watch these videos in class on Thursday, October 6th. The final 10 points of your grade will be for being a good audience member/classmate. Listen to your classmates' tall tales and be respectful (no talking, playing, or doing other work during the presentations.
I'm looking forward to your tall tales!
